The baptismal font is used for adult baptism, infant baptism and Christening. While many churches utilize full immersion baptism, the baptismal basin is used in churches where full immersion is not offered either due to doctrinal or sometimes logistical reasons.
The basin may be filled with water and then scooped out by the minister using either his hands or a special baptism shell to pour the water over the candidates forehead or scalp. Alternatively, a laver, or pitcher is sometimes used and the water is poured from the laver over the candidate and allowed to trickle into the bowl.
Baptism bowls and basins should be emptied when not in use to protect the finish. We suggest wiping the font basin with a clean dry cloth and occasionally polishing it using a carnuba wax with no abrasives.
