Our Altar candlesticks are bent...how do we fix them?
Very often the candlesticks can be repaired instead of buying new altar candlesticks. There is a threaded rod that goes the length of the candlestick. You can usually unscrew the top piece (socket) and the whole thing will come apart in to the various pieces. Examine everything closely as you take it apart so you know which way parts are oriented as you reassemble. (Its also a good idea to take pictures of everything before you dissaemble.)
You may find that the threaded rod itself is bent. In come cases it can be re-bent to be straight or it can be replaced with similar rod from a hardware store.
If it is not the rod then examine the part under the socket (bobeche) or the column/tube…if either of these is bent then we can possibly repair it. Send a picture of one of these pieces if it is bent.
Once the rod is straightened or bent you can reassemble the altar candlestick and tighten everything up by hand. Do not overtighten and this can easily bend delicate brass parts or components.
